History

"Usually the term refers to the six classical simple machines which were defined by Renaissance scientists:"[1]

  • Lever
  • Wheel and axle
  • Pulley
  • Inclined plane
  • Wedge
  • Screw

"They are the elementary "building blocks" of which all more complicated machines (sometimes called "compound machines".[2]

The Question

Five basic machines - the lever, the block and tackle, the wheel and axle, the inclined plane, and the screw. Equivalent for programs?
